The Landscape Masterplan Pompeii of Studio Bellesi Giuntoli was featured in Landscape Architecture Magazine (LAM), one of the most influential international publications in the field of landscape architecture and urban planning.

The article, titled “The Greening of Pompeii”, presents the Green Ring, a landscape infrastructure that surrounds the archaeological city of Pompeii and redefines the relationship between heritage, landscape, and contemporary urban dynamics.
Being featured in Landscape Architecture Magazine represents a major international recognition for the project and for Studio Bellesi Giuntoli.

A masterplan for the Pompeii Archaeological Park

The masterplan was developed for the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Pompeii Archaeological Park with the aim of strengthening the connection between archaeological heritage, landscape, and local communities.
It introduces a continuous system of green spaces, paths, and ecological corridors that improve microclimate conditions, enhance biodiversity, and redistribute visitor flows.

Moreover, the Green Ring reduces pressure on sensitive archaeological areas by offering new ways to experience the site. It also creates new public spaces for residents and visitors, integrating cultural, recreational, and environmental functions.

Landscape Masterplan Pompeii as cultural, ecological, and social infrastructure

The Landscape Masterplan Pompeii of Studio Bellesi Giuntoli interprets landscape as a cultural, ecological, and social infrastructure.
The project integrates universal accessibility strategies, inclusive paths, and sensory devices to ensure a diverse and inclusive visitor experience.

In addition, the masterplan enhances historical vegetation patterns and introduces Mediterranean species as key structural elements of the landscape design. This approach reinforces continuity between past, present, and future landscapes.

International recognition and the role of landscape

In 2024, the project received the ASLA Professional Award of Excellence, marking a significant milestone for Italian landscape architecture.
The feature in Landscape Architecture Magazine confirms the international relevance of the project and highlights the role of landscape as a strategic tool for managing and enhancing cultural heritage sites.
