The former-stoneware factory is located on the “gateway” to the Brembana valley coming from the historic centre of the city of Bergamo, in the territory of the municipalities of Ponteranica, Sorisole and Villa d’Almè. The area is immediately behind the hills of Bergamo, a few minutes by car or bike from the city centre.
Following the decommissioning of the stoneware production plant, this area quickly developed into a marginal area, characterized by numerous issues but also by considerable potential. The intervention area is in fact located between the town and the Parco dei Colli di Bergamo. For this reason, it is a great opportunity to mend these areas, both from a landscape-environmental point of view and from the multiple activities and services that it will be able to host.
The main objective of the masterplan is precisely the resolution of the caesura represented by the neglected factory, through the rediscovery of an environmental landscape “gradient”, which restores the dialogue between the “natural” landscape of the hills, the “cultural” one of the agricultural area and the former quarries, bringing together the element of innovation and partial conservation of the historical dimension represented by the recovery of the former factory, up to the strengthening of the connection with the urban fabric thanks to the redevelopment of the main road passing through the district. The entire area will be returned to the community, increasing the presence of greenery and improving liveability.
The masterplan is based upon the following principles:
The masterplan addresses various thematic areas, divided on the basis of the current characteristics and the new functions that each area could host:
